I’ve been thinking a lot about the gut-wrenching surge of violence that hit Davenport back on October 25, 2020. The loss of Lavonta Baker, especially someone so young, is really difficult to come to terms with. What stands out to me is the tragic setting of the shooting—literally inside a vehicle, something that shows the vulnerability we all face. It’s truly alarming that such violence can break out so suddenly, affecting not just those directly involved, but rippling through the community and leaving lasting scars. I’ve read that a 19-year-old has been charged, and while it’s crucial for justice to take its course, I can’t stop thinking about how this also reflects broader issues. This wasn't just a one-off event; it was part of a violent day in Davenport's history. I hope awareness of these tragedies brings about more community and systemic changes to prevent others from experiencing such devastation. My thoughts are with Lavonta’s loved ones, who now have to navigate life with this painful void.
