I’ve been thinking a lot about the suspect, Michael Thomas Lang, and how the justice system handles cases like this. There's no excuse for his actions, of course, but I can’t help but wonder what leads a person down such a path. It’s chilling to think that someone could escalate to the point of taking a life, especially someone so dedicated to protecting others like Sergeant Jim Smith. The legal repercussions are essential, but I often find myself pondering the earlier signs or events that might have changed the course of this tragedy. Sending my thoughts to Sergeant Smith’s family and all those mourning. It's a harsh reminder of the risks law enforcement officers face daily.
