On the evening of April 9, 2021, a routine traffic stop in the small town of Grundy Center, Iowa, escalated into a tragic series of events that would claim the life of a veteran law enforcement officer. That Friday, at approximately 7:22 p.m., a Grundy Center police officer attempted to pull over a vehicle driven by Michael Thomas Lang.
