I've been following Lauren McCluskey's case, and I keep thinking about the role of technology in these types of situations. Lauren was dealing with extortion through explicit photos, which is sadly not an uncommon tactic used by abusers. It feels so invasive, like even when victims are trying to protect themselves, the very tools meant for connecting us can be used against them. Lauren did absolutely everything she could to seek help. She reported the harassment and threats to the authorities, hoping they'd take the necessary steps to protect her. But even though she reached out, it's clear there were gaps in how law enforcement and the university handled the situation. How can we improve the way institutions respond to digital threats? What measures can be put in place so that when someone reports this kind of harassment, it gets the attention it deserves? I can't help but think about Lauren's courage in stepping forward and how we owe it to her and others to create better systems of protection. My heart goes out to Lauren's family and friends, who trusted those systems to keep her safe. She deserved so much better.

I'm really struggling with the details coming out about Lauren McCluskey's case. It's so upsetting to learn how many warning signs and cries for help were overlooked. The fact that Lauren reached out to both university and city police multiple times to report the threats and harassment is just chilling. How did the system fail her so badly that her ex could continue to stalk and harass her unchecked? I can't even imagine the fear and frustration she must have felt, trying to protect herself while dealing with these escalating threats. We have to do better in taking these reports seriously and ensure no one else falls through the cracks like this again. My thoughts are with Lauren's family and friends as they navigate this unimaginable tragedy.

I’m absolutely devastated thinking about the sheer number of red flags that were ignored leading up to Lauren's tragic death. It's beyond alarming that Rowland's parole status was never checked by university police, especially when she was literally crying out for help. How is it possible that a registered sex offender could just slip under the radar like this? The system was supposed to protect her, yet she was left to fend for herself against a manipulative predator. My heart goes out to Lauren’s family. I can’t even begin to imagine their frustration and sorrow knowing that protocols weren’t followed. It's chilling to think of how badly the system failed her, and I deeply hope changes have been made to prevent such a horrific oversight from ever happening again.
