On October 22, 2018, 21-year-old Lauren McCluskey, a University of Utah track and field athlete, was found dead in the back seat of a car in a parking lot next to her dormitory on the University of Utah campus in Salt Lake City, Utah. She had been shot seven times by her ex-boyfriend, Melvin Shawn Rowland.
