I came across Jordan's story recently, and it’s really stayed with me. What's even more alarming is thinking about how he had already survived two previous shootings as a teenager. It’s a testament to the resilience he must have had, and yet it makes his passing even more tragic. It shows a pattern many young people in neighborhoods like Englewood experience: the constant exposure to violence and the impact it leaves on their lives.
I can't help but wonder how these experiences shaped him and his outlook on life. Despite everything, he was still full of energy and hope, according to his family. It must have been profound for someone so young to endure such trauma yet continue to dream about a better future, drumming on buckets downtown and playing baseball.
It's devastating to think that there are so many kids like Jordan out there, navigating this dangerous landscape and trying to find their way against the odds. I hope that sharing stories like his helps to shine a light on the urgent need for real change and support in these communities. My thoughts are with his family.
