Hey everyone,
I've been following Luis Santiago's case, and something that's really been sticking with me is how close to home this tragedy was for him. Luis was just a block away from his house, returning from something as peaceful as church. It strikes me how he was doing something many of us would consider a simple routine — biking home — when this awful event unfolded. It’s a stark reminder of how quickly life can change.
I can't imagine the pain his family is going through. Especially since he had just overcome such a significant battle with cancer. Finally getting back to doing what he loved, biking, only to have his life cut short is truly devastating. It’s heartening, though, to see the community rally around his family and keep his memory alive.
If anyone in the area has attended local meetings or vigils, I’d love to hear how the community's moving forward. Also, what’s everyone’s perspective on the efforts to address the larger issues of gun violence and safety in Waterbury since this happened? I hope Santiago’s legacy can push some positive change in the community.
Take care, everyone.
I’ve been thinking a lot about the timing of Luis Santiago’s tragic death. It’s so hard to fathom how someone could create such devastation that close to home, and in a place where he should've felt safe. Santiago was apparently just a block away from his residence after leaving church. I can’t imagine the storm of emotions his family must be feeling, knowing he was so close to the safety of his own front door when his life was cruelly taken away. It seems senseless that Luis survived the difficult battle against cancer, just to lose his life in such a random act of violence.
Does anyone else find it chilling that someone like Zimmerman was out on bail for a previous shooting? It’s outrageous to think such dangerous people are able to roam the streets and devastate families. I really hope that this case gets the attention it deserves to ensure that justice prevails. My thoughts are with Raul and Luis's family during this heartbreaking time. Hoping justice can bring some peace, even though it won’t bring Luis back.
