I've been thinking a lot about the social dynamics in neighborhoods like the one where Tabari Freeman lost his life. It's devastating how systemic issues contribute to such tragedies. I can't help but wonder how different things might be if there were more programs focusing on empowering youth and offering viable paths away from violence. In the wake of violence, we often focus on policing, but perhaps community building could make a larger long-term impact. There are stories of other cities that have seen positive changes with community-led initiatives. It's heartbreaking to think that Freeman and others might still be here if there had been more opportunities and resources available. Sending strength to those who knew him, I hope that his loss can inspire some much-needed change.
