It's been some years since the tragedy at Westside Middle School, and yet it still haunts me how two young boys could cause so much devastation. I often think about the families, especially those of Brittheny and the other victims. Despite the passage of time, I can't imagine the pain of losing a child in such a senseless manner ever truly fades. What always perplexed me is how these young perpetrators, just kids themselves at the time, ended up with such easy access to firearms. I’ve read discussions about gun control and school safety sparked by this particular case, but it feels like not much has changed. Laws meant to protect us appear inadequate when these tragedies occur repeatedly in different places. It’s worrying how this cycle continues. My heart goes out to all the families and survivors who have to relive that day. I hope that one day we’ll find a way to better protect our children and prevent these unspeakable acts from happening again.
