Reading about Deputy Sheriff James Michael Lewis's case, I can't help but feel for his family and the community he served. It's devastating to think that after his service in the Vietnam War, where he risked his life for his country, he was fatally shot while simply doing his job. The trials following his death must have been such an emotional rollercoaster for his loved ones, especially with the mistrials adding to their grief and uncertainty. It makes me think about how much faith we put into our justice system to deliver closure, and while his murderer was eventually convicted, I can't imagine it fully heals the wound left by his loss. Deputy Lewis's dedication and bravery should not be forgotten, and my heart goes out to his family, hoping they have found some peace over the years.
