I can’t stop thinking about the officers who were on foot patrol and witnessed the entire incident. I can’t even begin to imagine the stress and trauma they endured watching such a horrific event unfold in front of them. Seeing something like that must be incredibly difficult to cope with, even for those trained for such situations. It’s important we remember the emotional toll this can take on first responders too. Moreover, it’s so concerning that a 15-year-old was involved in something this violent. What kind of environment leads someone so young down such a path? I hope there are initiatives in place to help prevent youth in that community from resorting to violence. It’s a complex issue, but we have to start somewhere if we want to see change. Jerron’s family is suffering an immense loss. My thoughts go out to them, especially his two children who have to grow up without their father’s presence. I hope as a community we can come together to support them in any way possible. If anyone has any thoughts on how communities can mobilize to prevent similar incidents, I would love to hear your ideas.
