I just can't get over the loss felt by the students and staff at Jane Long and Taylor Ray. How do you ever truly cope with something like this? It feels especially cruel for those young kids who looked up to Marina and Gene as not only teachers but mentors. The tributes I've seen from their students are touching yet so bittersweet. It really shows how much they were loved, respected, and needed. Offering counseling is so crucial right now—it's heartening to see the district stepping up to provide that support, but I worry about the long-term impacts on these kids. How does a fourth-grader process such a devastating reality? They’ll need lots of love and guidance, not just now but for a long time to come. Sending all my thoughts to the students, families, and staff as they navigate this difficult time.
