I’ve been thinking a lot about the role of messaging in Steven Gagne’s tragic case. It's haunting to realize how vital the texts and audio between the suspects were in piecing together what actually happened that night. For investigators to find those conversations that openly discussed committing a crime is chilling. It makes me wonder about the mindset of these individuals and how something like this can seem like an option to them. Steven was trying to engage in a private transaction, something many people do, and it turned into his last moments. It really makes you reflect on how quickly things can escalate, and how technology, a tool for connection, can also be used in planning these awful acts. My heart goes out to Steven’s family and friends. I can’t imagine the pain they're going through while dealing with the reality of how premeditated this was. It's a stark reminder of the risks some face as they try to navigate life’s challenges.
