I can't shake how senseless and devastating this situation is. Za’Riyah Sheffield was just starting to carve out her path and make her dreams a reality. She was a teenager, just 16, who had aspirations in business, and to have all of that taken away over a look – it’s unfathomable. Every life is precious, and the idea that someone so young and vibrant had her life abruptly ended is deeply painful. I can’t help but think about her friends and family, especially her classmates at Connally High School. Losing a friend at this age is incredibly tough. It's so important that communities come together not just to grieve but to make sure something positive comes out of this tragedy, like increased awareness and prevention measures to ensure our young people are safe and valued. My thoughts are with Za’Riyah’s loved ones and everyone affected by this senseless act.
