Does anyone else feel heartache thinking about the families affected by the violence in Chicago? Tayivon Roberson’s tragic death at just 18 is yet another reminder of how much work needs to be done to stem this tide of violence impacting young lives. I can't help but think about how Tayivon had his whole life ahead of him—dreams, aspirations, maybe even college plans or finding his path in life. Marquette Park has seen way too much bloodshed, and it's so difficult to watch these communities continue to hurt and grieve. This wasn’t just a statistic; it was a person, someone’s child, friend, possibly brother. As outsiders looking in, is there more we can do to support these neighborhoods? I really hope the injured individual is recovering and getting the support they need, both physically and emotionally. My thoughts and prayers are with Tayivon’s loved ones—this isn’t the future any parent deserves.
