I’ve been following the details of Eric Whigham's case, and something that really sticks out is the ongoing failures in our probation system. Christon Collins had numerous run-ins with the law before this tragic event, yet he was still free at the time of Eric’s murder. It’s incredibly frustrating for Eric’s family and friends to know that this may have been prevented if the system had been stricter with Collins after his first offenses. Why do we even have court-imposed probation if it's not monitored properly? I know there's a need to strike a balance between rehabilitation and punishment, but in cases like these, it feels like more could have been done. It's unsettling to think that someone with such a history can continue slipping through the cracks. My thoughts go out to Eric’s loved ones. I hope they get the answers they need and that the justice system starts taking these issues more seriously to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
