I came across the story of Miguel "Silky" Ford, and it really struck a chord with me. It's unbearable to see another young life lost to the epidemic of gun violence that has been plaguing Chicago, especially in neighborhoods like Englewood. Miguel was only 21, and from what friends and family have shared, he was a selfless soul who always uplifted those around him. It's gut-wrenching to think about the potential and kindness the world lost with him. What’s truly frustrating is the persistent cycle of violence and lack of resources that continue to afflict communities like Englewood. These are systemic issues that have been ignored for far too long. We hear stats and numbers, but each of those numbers was a person—like Miguel—with dreams and a future that should have never been cut short. I'm curious to hear what all of you think could be done practically at the community level to address these challenges. I feel like more needs to be done to bring about actual change, beyond just talking about it. How do we ensure that Miguel’s story doesn’t get lost in the statistics, and that real solutions are put into place?
