I can't stop thinking about the role of neighbors and their instincts in incidents like this. It's difficult to grasp how in certain situations, we may not realize that what seems like a minor disturbance can quickly turn into a life-and-death emergency. Seeing a vehicle pull into your yard at such an odd hour might seem alarming or strange, but it was actually Ashley seeking help. I imagine the regrets and haunting "what ifs" that the residents of that house must feel. Although it's no one's fault but the perpetrator's, it's a harsh reminder of how domestic violence tragically escalates. I hope Ashley's story strengthens our community's resolve to be more aware and proactive. If only more of us knew what was happening, maybe there was a chance for intervention. My heart goes out to Ashley’s children and everyone who knew her. Use those instincts, even if it’s just to make a call to 911 when something doesn’t seem right; you never know whose life you might be saving.
