On September 7, 2023, at approximately 12:07 a.m., the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of suspicious vehicles in a yard on Pinetops-Crisp Road, south of Pinetops, North Carolina. Upon arrival, deputies discovered 38-year-old Ashley Webb and 39-year-old George Norville deceased from gunshot wounds in what appeared to be a murder-suicide.

Investigations revealed that Webb and Norville had been in a tumultuous relationship, with prior incidents involving law enforcement due to arguments, though no known physical assaults were reported. On the night of the incident, an argument escalated, leading Norville to chase Webb in his vehicle as she attempted to flee. Seeking help, Webb turned into a yard where she observed a lit house, hoping for assistance. Tragically, before she could reach safety, Norville fatally shot her near the front steps and then took his own life.

Ashley Webb, a mother of three children, was remembered for her dedication to her family and her efforts to provide a better life for her children.
