I've been reading about the tragic shooting of Jacklyn Marie Reed, and something that stands out to me is how important the role of school resource officers can be in our communities. The officer at Edneyville Elementary acted swiftly and calmly, preventing what could have been an even more shocking situation. It's haunting to think about how quickly things escalated from an argument at a bus stop to a tragic scene at a school. I can't imagine the fear and confusion the students and parents must have felt during the lockdown. I hope this situation prompts community discussions about safety and support for those struggling, so tragedies like this can be prevented in the future. My heart goes out to Reed's loved ones as they navigate this unimaginable loss.
