Hey everyone,

It's truly difficult to wrap my head around the recent shooting near the Smith Recreation Center. I can't help but think about the impact this has had on the community, particularly Fayetteville State University students who regularly visit the area. I mean, how do you feel safe knowing something so tragic happened so close by?

I’m also thinking about the families involved, especially Emmanuel’s. Losing someone in such a sudden and violent manner is unimaginable. In addition, my heart goes out to the other victims and their families as they recover and try to process what happened.

Does anyone have thoughts on how ongoing violence in community spaces like this can be addressed? It’s a heavy topic, but I think open discussions might help in finding ways to support each other and prevent future tragedies. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and being a part of this community.
Hey everyone, I've been following the tragic event on Slater Avenue, and I can't stop thinking about the larger implications of gun violence in our communities. It's just so unsettling to see these kinds of incidents happening close to places where people gather for recreation and education, like the Smith Recreation Center and Fayetteville State University. I read about the use of ShotSpotter technology, which played a role in recording gunfire during the incident. It's great that technology is aiding in these investigations, but it's disheartening that we even need such measures. I can't imagine what the victims' families must be going through right now, especially Emmanuel Smith's loved ones. Let's hope for a swift and thorough investigation so they can find some peace. I’d be interested to hear others' thoughts on how our communities might reduce these types of incidents in the future. Stay safe out there.
