I've been following Eduardo Montes' case, and I keep thinking about the silence it left in his community after his passing. Eduardo's neighbors described him as a dedicated father who was embracing the joys of new parenthood with his girlfriend and their newborn son. It’s just overwhelming to imagine the loss for his young family. The incident occurred in the midst of festivities on July 4th, a time usually filled with joy, making the tragedy feel even more jarring for those close to him. I’m also troubled by how some people around Second Street are coping with another reminder of the ongoing violence in Albany. It's concerning that the grand jury didn't indict Planas-Dove on the murder charge, but I hope the resolution of the weapons charge offers some sense of justice. My thoughts are with Eduardo’s family and friends who are navigating life without him. I can't help but wonder what steps can be taken to prevent these types of tragedies in the future.
