I find myself thinking a lot about the young girl, just 13, who was caught up in this horrifying event. It’s a sobering reminder of how indiscriminate and far-reaching the repercussions of violence can be. I can’t even begin to imagine how terrifying and confusing this ordeal must be for her, her family, and the families of all those involved. It’s easy to get lost in the statistics of violence or to think of these events in abstract terms, but when a child is injured so close to home, it truly hits hard. I hope she is receiving the care and support she needs right now, both physically and mentally, and that the community can rally around her to help her through this. It breaks my heart knowing she’s had to witness such chaos at such a young age. As for the neighborhoods affected, I genuinely hope this serves as a wake-up call to address the root causes of violence in our communities. We owe it to the younger generations to build a safer environment for them. Thinking of everyone involved tonight.
