In the warm summer night of August 5, 2023, tragedy struck on North Clinton Avenue in Rochester, New York, forever altering the lives of a local family. Anthony Miller-Curry, a 19-year-old Black male, was caught in a wave of violence that ultimately claimed his life. In the early morning hours, a large crowd had gathered near Siebert Place and Scrantom Street when gunfire erupted.
Responding officers found Anthony in front of a store at 759 North Clinton Avenue with a gunshot wound to his torso. He was rushed to the hospital in grave condition.
The chaos of that night was not confined to a single act of violence. Minutes after Anthony was shot, a second shooting occurred nearby at the intersection of Clinton Avenue and Scrantom Street, resulting in another fatality and multiple injuries. In total, the two separate but connected shootings left five people wounded and two dead. Anthony, despite medical efforts, succumbed to his injuries after his family made the difficult decision to remove him from life support.
For Anthony's mother, Titiana Bogar, the loss was an unimaginable echo of a past sorrow. Less than three years earlier, in October 2020, she had buried her older son, Lysaun Curry, who was also a victim of gun violence. The grief of losing a second child to the same fate was a heavy burden for a mother who now vowed to fight for change in their honor. The community shared in the family's grief, holding vigils to remember the lives lost.
As of the summer of 2024, nearly a year after the tragic night, no arrests have been made in connection with the shootings. The Rochester Police Department's Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate the double homicide. In an effort to generate new leads, authorities released a flyer with an image of a person of interest they believe could provide crucial information. They have appealed to the public for any information or video footage that might help bring closure to the families of the victims, as a mother and a community continue to mourn the senseless loss of a young life.
