I just can't get over how Renzo was there just to support his stepson on such an important day. Wearing a shirt with his stepson's face on it, you could really tell how proud and supportive he was. It's unfathomable that what should have been a joyous occasion turned into such a tragic loss. To lose a father and a son in one day... I can’t even begin to imagine what Tameeka and the rest of their family must be going through right now. It’s so important we keep the conversation around community safety and the impact of gun violence alive. His legacy as a veteran and a loving stepdad deserves to be remembered, not overshadowed by this senseless act. Keeping Renzo and Shawn’s families in my thoughts. Would love to hear from folks who may have been at the graduation and experienced the community's resilience firsthand.

I’ve been following the tragic case of the Richmond shooting and can’t stop thinking about Renzo Smith and how he was there to support his stepson, Shawn. It breaks my heart to think about how he must have felt, just bursting with pride, wearing that shirt with Shawn’s face on it one moment, and then such tragedy striking the next. Renzo seemed to embody what it meant to be there for his family. I can only imagine how hard it must be for the family to cope with such a loss, especially on a day that’s supposed to be filled with such happiness. I didn’t know Renzo or his family personally, but as a veteran, I'm sure he touched many lives, and hearing stories about him from those who knew him must bring some comfort. My thoughts and prayers are with Tameeka and their loved ones.

I can only imagine the depth of pain that Tameeka Jackson-Smith and her family are experiencing. Losing both Renzo and Shawn on what's supposed to be one of the proudest days in a family's life is beyond devastating. It's hard to process how quickly joy can turn to tragedy. One aspect I can't stop thinking about is the Altria Theater itself - meant to be a place of celebration, echoing with cheers for graduates, but forever tainted for the Jackson-Smith family. This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of how violence can invade even our most cherished moments. My heart goes out to all the families affected by this senseless act and to the community grappling with the loss. It's a reminder that we need to do more to address conflict and violence among young people before it escalates to such irreversible consequences.
