I was reading about Latoya Cynthia Coleman's story and can't stop thinking about how senseless gun violence has become. It’s really unsettling to know that someone like Latoya, at just 40 years old, had her life abruptly ended in a place as familiar as an apartment complex. It's comforting to see that the police acted quickly in charging a suspect, but it doesn't change the fact that her family and friends are left picking up the pieces after such a tragic loss. I can only imagine the kind of person Latoya was, and how much warmth she brought to those around her. The Greenwood community must be really shaken by this, and rightfully so. Her name being listed in the National Gun Violence Memorial serves as a reminder of the broader issue. I just hope this case motivates more conversations around making our communities safer and supporting those who’ve lost loved ones due to gun violence. It's the least we can do to honor Latoya and others like her.
