I’ve been following the case of Antonia Jenkins with a heavy heart. One thing that really stands out to me is the location where this tragic event unfolded. Joy Road and Lawton Street is an area many of us in Detroit know well—some pass by it daily, never imagining such a terrible incident could happen there. It’s unsettling to think that a place so familiar can turn into the scene of such violence. This has made me think deeply about the broader issue of safety in our neighborhoods and how we often take our everyday surroundings for granted.
