I’ve been following the case of D'Marea Thornton closely and my heart goes out to his family during this unimaginable time. While there's been a lot of focus on the suspects and the violence in the community, I find myself thinking about the role social media played in this case. The fact that a tip from a social media post led D'Marea’s family to find his location is just incredible — it makes me wonder about the potential positive power of social media in such dire situations. But at the same time, it raises questions about whether there were any warning signs online that might have been missed or could've been spotted earlier. It’s sobering to think how digital breadcrumbs can sometimes carry the weight of life and death. Has anyone else considered how social media might be both a lifeline but also a source of danger in these situations? Stay safe everyone, and let’s keep the conversation going on how we can better protect the young people in our communities.
