It’s really devastating to think about how the lives of Ceilin Smith and Desmond Taylor were cut short outside the Aura nightclub. What struck me most about this case is how it brings up significant concerns regarding the role of nightlife security. These guys were there to keep patrons safe, and yet they became victims themselves. I can't imagine what their families are going through right now. Reading about these acts of violence has made me more aware of the responsibilities placed on security personnel. It seems like a tremendous amount of pressure and risk they carry, often without the support or resources they truly need. Maybe it's time some regulations or more comprehensive training are put in place to better protect those tasked with keeping us safe. It’s so important we take these issues seriously and advocate for meaningful changes, not just in Columbus but in any city where nightlife plays a big role. Security work needs to be recognized as the critical public safety service it is. I'm hoping this tragic case can lead to reforms that prevent such incidents from happening again. Sending all my thoughts to Mr. Smith and Mr. Taylor's families during this incredibly difficult time.
