Has anyone else read about the role Patricia Navarro Velez played in advancing cybersecurity research? I didn’t know until recently that she was so invested in this aspect of accounting. It’s really impressive how focused she was on understanding internal control weaknesses and data analytics. It’s so hard to imagine how someone who was doing such meaningful work could have her life cut short in such a senseless way. Her contributions to education and research seemed endless, and her students and colleagues truly admired her. My heart goes out to her family, especially her four children who must be devastated. She was a real force in her field and will be sorely missed by the academic community. How does one even start to fill a void like that? Her legacy should continue to inspire us in finding solutions to enhance safety and support those driven by the same passions she had.
