I wanted to take a moment to discuss the role of community support in the tragic Chickasaw Park shooting that took the lives of David Huff and Deaji Goodman. Sometimes, in the chaos of such horrifying events, it's easy to forget just how crucial community involvement is in solving these cases. It breaks my heart to think about what David’s family, especially his sister Hailey, must be going through. Having lost another brother to gun violence previously, their pain is unimaginable. And yet, despite the challenges in the investigation, it strikes me how vital it is for local residents to come together and support each other—not just emotionally, but by actively participating in efforts to bring those responsible to justice. You often hear about anonymous tip lines and online portals for sharing information, but these tools can only be effective if people use them. The reality is, police resources are stretched thin and they rely heavily on the eyes and ears of the community. Every small piece of information could be a potential lead. It's not just a call for witness testimony, but a call for unity and collective action to ensure safer spaces for everyone. The city and local officials have been vocal in their appeals, and with the case still unsolved a year later, it seems more important than ever to step up. Let’s hold onto hope that with enough community engagement, justice for David and Deaji will eventually be served. Their families deserve that peace.
