I'm still trying to wrap my head around the tragic loss of Carl "Coolie" Patterson Jr. Something about the surveillance footage is haunting me. It shows a car pulling up and firing in broad daylight, as if life meant nothing to them. How can someone be so brazen and cold? It’s terrifying to think about how public and reckless this act of violence was. I keep thinking about the moments before the incident, about Carl sitting in his car, probably just going about his day, unaware of what was about to happen. And then the fear he must have felt trying to escape only to crash at Albany and Woodland. Living in Hartford, these stories hit too close to home. The lockdown at Covenant Prep was necessary, but it’s heartbreaking knowing young students were so close to such violence. I can't imagine how the families and friends are coping with this sudden and senseless loss. My thoughts are with Carl’s loved ones, hoping they find some form of justice and peace in all of this chaos. As a community, we really need to stand together and support each other right now.
