I can't stop thinking about Jessica Velasquez and her family. Having lost loved ones myself, I can only imagine the immense pain her sons and siblings are feeling right now. I've read so many stories about people being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and it just breaks you down thinking about how life can change in an instant due to senseless violence. Jerry Carter's death adds another layer of sorrow, and to think someone else was injured too... It's an ordeal that nobody should have to endure. This community has seen more than its fair share of gun violence, and it's past time for measures to be put into place that address the root causes of these incidents. There's always so much discussion, but real action feels like it's moving at a snail's pace. It's just a shame that it often takes tragedies like these to bring attention to what's happening. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Jessica and Jerry. Let's keep their families in our thoughts and support efforts to create safer communities.
