Hi everyone,
I've been following the discussion about Susan Yijuan Yan's tragic murder, and something that's been weighing on my mind is the impact this must have on her two children. It's utterly devastating to think about what they've been through—not only losing their mother in such a violent manner but witnessing the turmoil of their household life with a history of domestic violence.
Having both kids present in the home at the time of the shooting makes this situation even more heart-wrenching. It sounds like they were caught in a nightmare with no escape, constantly surrounded by conflict. The detail that neither child was surprised by their father's actions speaks volumes about the environment they were living in. I can't imagine the emotional scars they might carry after experiencing such trauma and loss.
It makes me wonder about the support systems in place for them now. Are they with family members? Do they have access to counseling and resources to help them process what they've lived through? These kids have lost their mother and, in a way, their father too. I hope they find the strength and support they need to rebuild some semblance of normalcy in their lives.
My heart truly goes out to them. If anyone has any updates on their situation or ways we might be able to help, please share. They will need all the support they can get in the coming months and years.
Take care,

I've been reading a lot about the tragic case of Susan Yijuan Yan, and something that's been sitting heavy on my mind is the impact on her children. It’s devastating to imagine what they’re going through. The fact that they weren't surprised by the horror that unfolded speaks volumes about the environment they must have been living in for so long.
Growing up in a household where domestic violence is a part of daily life shapes you in ways that are hard to comprehend for those who haven’t lived it. I sincerely hope they’re getting the support they need, not just in the immediate aftermath, but ongoing support to help heal from this trauma. They’ve lost their mother, and in many ways, their father too, and navigating such profound loss is unimaginable at their young ages.
Sending all my thoughts to those two kids. I really hope that the community and the schools rally around them and remind them that there is still love and kindness in the world. If anyone has updates or knows of any way to support them, please share. We’ve seen how these forums can come together to help people in need, and this family certainly needs all the support they can get.
I’ve been thinking a lot about Susan Yan’s kids and what they must be going through. It breaks my heart to imagine the trauma and pain they must have felt, not just on that horrid day, but over the years witnessing the domestic violence between their parents. That’s a heavy burden for just about anyone, let alone a 19-year-old and a 14-year-old. Their whole world has been shattered, and now they must navigate life without their mother while grappling with the knowledge that their father is accused of causing it. I hope they’re surrounded by people who love and support them through this unimaginable time. It’s a reminder of how domestic violence can devastate entire families. If anyone has information on resources or ways the community can support these young people, please do share.
