I've been thinking a lot about the neighbors' role in Jacob's case. It's tough to wrap my mind around how no one seems to have intervened before things became so dire. I know it's not always easy to tell when something is seriously wrong, especially if the signs aren't obvious. But given the reported history of neglect and mistreatment, weren't there any indicators that could have been noticed? I'm not here to cast blame, but it makes me ponder about community responsibility. Maybe if more people were vigilant or felt empowered to act on their gut feelings, these tragedies could be prevented. We all need to work harder to create an environment where people feel safe to speak up for those who can't defend themselves, like Jacob. My heart goes out to his family and friends dealing with such an unimaginable loss. Hoping we can all learn something from this and be more proactive in our communities.
