Reading about the tragic loss of the Currier-Stevens family has really struck a chord with me, especially thinking about young George, who was only 12. So often, we focus on the immediate tragedy, but I can't help but wonder about the ripple effects this had on Lewiston's community. Imagine being George's classmate or neighbor at the time—how do you even begin to process losing a friend in such a violent and sudden way? Back in 1941, resources for grief counseling and mental health weren't as prevalent as they are today. I hope that the families who knew them found some form of comfort, even if it was just through the support of each other. It’s moments like these that remind us of the importance of caring for everyone impacted by such tragedies. Imagine the strength it took for the community to heal from this and move forward. My thoughts are with all who were affected and I hope the pain lessened over time, even if just a little.
