I’ve been thinking a lot about the response of the local law enforcement during the tragic events on February 3rd, 2020. It’s commendable how quickly they acted after the shootings in Machias and Jonesboro. Their swift actions definitely prevented further loss of life and helped maintain order during such a terrifying day. It’s a small comfort to know that while these tragic events unfolded, there were dedicated individuals working tirelessly to protect and support the community.
But it does make me wonder about the long-term effects on our first responders too. I hope there’s support available for them as well, considering the emotional burden they must bear. My heart goes out to everyone affected, especially the families of Shawn Currey, Samuel Powers, and Jennifer Bryant Flynn. It’s impossible to imagine the depth of their grief.
I've been thinking a lot about Regina Long, the woman who survived the attack. It's a miracle she's still with us, but I can't imagine the physical and emotional scars she must be dealing with. Surviving such a traumatic event, and knowing she lost friends that day, must be incredibly difficult. Her courage and strength during recovery are truly inspiring, but she deserves all the support she can get from her community. I hope people will rally around her and provide some sense of comfort. It's vital for survivors to know they are not alone, especially in small towns where the loss is felt so deeply. Does anyone know if there are support groups or outreach efforts in Machias or Jonesboro to help those affected?
