Laura Ellen Leggate, 62, was found dead in Joliet, Montana, on June 7, 2024, in an incident authorities have described as an apparent murder-suicide. The Carbon County Sheriff’s Office says the event also involved the death of her husband, Jerry Leggate, who died the same day. Law enforcement has characterized the incident as involving gun violence and has identified Jerry Leggate as the sole suspect in Laura’s death before he took his own life.

A Navy veteran who served as an Aviation Storekeeper, Laura had settled in Montana after her military service and moved to Joliet with her husband in 2018. Friends and former colleagues remembered the couple as a pair and expressed sorrow at the news. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances, and officials have not indicated any ongoing threat to the public.

If anyone knew Laura or the Leggates and can share details about their life in Joliet or events leading up to June 7, please come forward.
