I was reading more about Deputy Sweet's murder, and I can't shake the sense of loss his family must have felt. Imagine getting that knock on your door, hearing that someone you love won’t be coming back home. It's gut-wrenching to think how dangerous things can get out of the blue. I read somewhere that his wife, Mary, was really involved with the local church, and the community apparently rallied around her after the tragedy. It must have been a solace to feel supported during such a horrific time. These stories just remind me how crucial it is to acknowledge the constant risks officers take, and how their families live in quiet fear every day. I hope Deputy Sweet's family found some peace, knowing he died protecting the people he cared about. Anyone else come across any more about how his family coped after?

Wow, I came across some interesting discussions about Deputy Sheriff Elbert Percey Sweet’s murder, and it got me thinking about the incredible risks law enforcement officers faced, even back in 1904. I find it so moving how Sweet embodied bravery with his decision to confront the Lee brothers despite knowing the dangers. Does anyone know more about the community's response at the time? I read that his death shook Blackfoot deeply, but I'm curious if there were any memorials or tributes held in his honor as it would have been a big deal back then. It’s aspects like these that show how communities come together in the face of tragedy. Sending thoughts to all the descendants and everyone in the area who might have personal connections to this story. ?️
