I've recently been researching the tragic case of Lieutenant Steve Crerar, and one thing that stands out to me is the issue of security protocols for transporting juveniles. Given the heartbreaking outcome, it seems there may have been some lapses that allowed John Michael Sides Jr. to gain access to the service weapon. It makes you question if there were enough safeguards during transport to prevent such tragic outcomes.
I understand they might have been following the protocols of the time, but it seems vital to reassess these procedures to ensure the safety of our officers and the individuals in their care. My thoughts are with Lieutenant Crerar's family. It's devastating to think a routine part of his job led to such a senseless loss.
Does anyone know if changes were implemented in procedures around this time? It seems like something that should have been addressed to prevent similar incidents in the future.
