I recently stumbled upon the tragic case of Acting Marshal Owen Kelly and found myself really reflecting on the swift and harsh justice that unfolded. It’s truly unsettling to think about how quickly things escalated, leading to not just Owen's death, but also the vigilante-style execution of the shooter by a mob. I keep wondering about the long-lasting impact this event must have had on the Kelly family, losing someone so young and full of promise. And to make matters more complex, the decision of the mob to take justice into their own hands likely robbed them of any closure a legal trial might have provided. It's chilling to think how emotions and mob mentality took control, leaving everyone involved with more questions than answers. Does anyone know if there was any further investigation or acknowledgment of the mob’s actions in subsequent years? Curious to know how this was perceived legally and socially back in the late 1800s.
