It’s been 122 years since Deputy Sheriff Joseph Littleton Edwards was cruelly ambushed and taken from us, but his courage in the face of danger remains unforgettable. Reading through old accounts, I was struck by how his dedication to his badge and community was echoed by folks who spoke of him as both an officer and a friend. It’s clear that even then, the risks officers took every day were enormous, and Deputy Edwards met those risks head-on with grit. I can’t help but feel for the generations of his family who've had to live with this void, as well as the families of Sheriff Dawson, Deputy Stevens, and Deputy McNeill, whose sacrifices remind us that behind every badge is a real person, deeply committed to their duty. If anyone has deeper insights or family stories about Deputy Edwards, it would be invaluable to share those glimpses of his life with us. Let's continue to honor his memory by offering support and remembering the real human behind the uniform.
