It's truly a tragedy to read about the loss of Constable John H. Hollis and the impact it must have had on the community of Littleton back in 1907. I can only imagine the pain his family and friends endured during such a turbulent time. What's really intriguing—and honestly a bit unsettling—is how swiftly the legal system moved in those days. The suspect, although convicted of second-degree murder, was paroled just a few years later, in 1910. It raises so many questions about justice back then. Did the short sentence reflect societal views of the time, or were there other factors at play during the trial? Constable Hollis's dedication and bravery were without question, and it's important that we continue to honor his legacy and perhaps learn from the past. My thoughts are with the families affected by this case, even many generations later.
