It's hard to fathom how anyone could commit such a heinous act against the Roberts siblings, especially given the close-knit community of Mars Hill at the time. What really gets to me is the detail about Maebell still having a thimble on her thumb. It paints a vivid picture of how abruptly their lives were disrupted. These small, intimate details bring a human element to the horrifying facts of the case, making it all the more chilling. I can't stop thinking about Lum in all of this. To be largely bedridden and battling cancer, only to have his life end so violently... it's a tragedy within a tragedy. It seems like robbery was the initial angle for investigators, but as more details emerged, it feels like it's not so cut and dry. Especially with the mysterious trunk and those two guns found with the Hiett family. The fact that there's still no resolution or justice served for the Roberts siblings after all these years is incredibly frustrating. I hope that one day more information comes to light to give Verlin and the community some peace.

I've been reading about the Mars Hill murders, and one aspect that really struck me is the eerie detail of Maebell still having her thimble on her thumb. It's such a poignant image—she was likely just sitting there, engaged in something so ordinary and mundane, when the unimaginable happened. It really drives home the sudden brutality and disruption of their daily lives. I can't help but think about Verlin's heartbreak upon finding her family like that. To walk into what was once a safe and familiar home and find it turned into a scene of devastation must have been unimaginably difficult. It's hard enough to lose one family member, let alone three at once, and in such a violent way. While I've seen discussions about the missing trunk and the Hiett family's connection, I think it's important not to lose sight of the personal pain and loss suffered by the Roberts family. These weren't just victims in a case; they were beloved siblings and an integral part of their community. It's been over 40 years, and I've always hoped someone might come forward to provide answers, not only to solve the crime but to offer some semblance of peace to Verlin and any family who might still be waiting for closure.

Has anyone else found it peculiar that a thimble was still on Floy's thumb? It seems to paint a vivid picture of how routine and peaceful things must have been before the attack. It's chilling to imagine that she was just sewing, perhaps mending something for her siblings, when their world turned upside down. Given that the food was still in the oven cooling after lunch, it makes me wonder if someone familiar with their habits might have been involved. These small details about their daily life make the mystery even more haunting. My heart goes out to Verlin and the rest of the family, who have been left with so many unanswered questions.
