I cannot believe the tragic events surrounding May Chao-Mei Hu and her son Robin. I'm especially struck by the death of their beloved cat, Maneki, so shortly before the incident. Pets often provide immense comfort, and losing Maneki must have added yet another layer of pain for Robin and May during what seems to have been an already difficult time.
May’s story is touching; she overcame so much in her life, from emigrating to the U.S. to building a family and establishing a notable presence in the Athens community. The fact that she was still remembered fondly for her kindness by those who visited the pharmacies where she worked says a lot about the positive impact she had.
My heart aches for those who knew them. It's as if the passing of Maneki was a harbinger, as animals sometimes have an uncanny understanding of when things aren't right. This whole situation underlines the need for us to check in with those we love, especially when life's burdens become too heavy to bear alone. Thoughts go out to May and Robin’s family and friends.
I've been thinking a lot about the possible stressors that Robin might have been facing leading up to this tragic event. It's so difficult to fathom what he was going through that might have led to such a devastating decision. I read about May's cat, Maneki, passing away just days before everything happened. Anyone who’s ever lost a pet knows how incredibly tough that can be, especially if Maneki was also providing comfort to May and Robin during challenging times.
There's been mention of Robin having some health issues, and it makes me wonder if his mental health was deteriorating. Sometimes those closest to someone struggling don't even realize the depth of their pain until it's too late. My heart goes out to their friends and family, dealing with the loss of both May and Robin and trying to piece together how it could have come to this. It’s a sobering reminder of how important it is to check in on our loved ones and be there for each other.
I’ve been following the Athens case and something hit me hard. It’s so touching how the community remembers May for her radiant kindness and unwavering strength. She was the essence of resilience after all she had been through, especially losing Douglas and caring for Robin through his health struggles. It breaks my heart thinking about the weight she carried and how she still remained a beacon of light to so many around her. Losing her and Robin in such a tragic way is an unimaginable blow, not just to family but to everyone who knew them. The loss of her beloved cat Maneki days before must have compounded the sorrow in that household. To anyone who had the privilege to know May and Robin, I can't begin to fathom the grief. Sending love and strength to all during this difficult time.
