Michael Curtis Magby was 50 when his body was found in his Washington, D.C., apartment on the morning of Friday, February 1, 2008. Officers discovered him at about 10:27 a.m. in the 1300 block of Fort Stevens Drive Northwest. Authorities immediately ruled his death a homicide.
Investigators later said Magby had been stabbed in the neck and that there were no signs of forced entry, prompting the suggestion he may have known his attacker. The case attracted attention because of parallels with an unsolved, similarly brutal killing of another man in his 50s who lived alone in the same neighborhood four years earlier.
The Metropolitan Police Department reported no suspects shortly after the killing, and the investigation has since grown cold with no arrests publicly announced. If anyone knew Michael, his routines, neighbors, or saw something in that area around February 1, 2008, contact investigators with any information.
