Kenneth Edward Morris Jr. was 31 when he died after a police pursuit ended in a deadly collision on the evening of December 23, 2016. Morris was driving his Nissan Altima in the 4100 block of East Capitol Street Southeast when a stolen Lexus being chased by Metropolitan Police struck his car from behind. The impact sent Morris’s vehicle into a tree and another car. He was not involved in the chase and was taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries two days before Christmas.

Officers had identified the Lexus as taken in an armed robbery a few days earlier. The Lexus’s driver was speeding to evade police; after the crash three people ran from the Lexus. Police arrested the driver, identified as 17-year-old David Mclane of Washington, D.C., and charged him as an adult with second-degree murder. Two passengers fled and were not immediately captured. Friends and family remembered Morris as hardworking, loving, and well dressed.
