On the night of May 4, 2008, 24-year-old Biniam Gebreyesus traveled to Washington, D.C., with friends after responding to a Facebook invitation. The group spent time at a downtown club before an unprovoked punch by an unknown person. Gebreyesus walked away to find who struck him and, at about 3:30 AM in the 1000 block of Vermont Avenue NW, was fatally stabbed. A friend with him was also stabbed but survived.
The Metropolitan Police Department investigated and a reward of up to $25,000 was offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction, but no suspects have been publicly identified and no arrests have been announced. The killing remains an unsolved homicide and the family continues to seek answers.
If anyone knew Biniam, witnessed that night, or has information about the attack, please share what can help the investigation.
