In the early morning hours of May 8, 2008, officers responded to southbound I-295 just south of the Pennsylvania Avenue exit in Washington, D.C., after reports of a shooting. At approximately 12:25 a.m., 26-year-old Mansoor Farooq Awan, also known as Soor Awan, was found inside a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds. Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene and the death was ruled a homicide.
The Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch opened an investigation but the circumstances that led to Awan being shot, including any motive or the identity of a shooter, remain unknown. No arrests or publicly identified suspects have been announced, and a reward of up to $25,000 has been offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
If anyone has information about Awan, his movements that night, or the events on I-295 near Pennsylvania Avenue on May 8, 2008, please contact the Metropolitan Police Department.
