I’ve been thinking about Rasha Breann Sherrer and wanted to focus on how sadly common her experiences were leading to that fateful day. It’s distressing that her life needed to be cut short for some in the community to start talking about domestic violence. Rasha was known to be a caring mom and was reportedly doing everything she could to create a loving environment for her kids. It's so painful to see how someone striving for normalcy and safety could have their life taken so brutally. In discussions about her case, I’ve seen a lot of people in Alabama now more actively speaking up about these dangers, and while it’s important that more resources and protections are developed for those in similar environments, I hope Rasha’s story doesn’t get forgotten as a mere statistic in this ongoing conversation. Her friends and family talk about her in such warm terms, as someone who had boundless love and kindness to give. It's a reminder of why these issues are so critical to address before they lead to more heartbreak. My heart goes out to all who loved and cherished her.
